May 2007 Lodging Facts Report Now Available

Room demand continues to outpace the growth in room inventory statewide by more than a two-to-one ratio allowing hotels to enjoy continued ADR and REVPAR increases.  Smith Travel Research's initial May survey shows the Charlotte/Carolinas area with an ADR of $90.41, the first time ever a region has exceeded a ninety-dollar ADR for a calendar month.  The Raleigh/Triangle region was close behind with an ADR of $89.96.  GO TO LODGING FACTS


Charlotte Increases Airport Car Rental Fees - Again

Business travelers and tourists arriving at Charlotte’s busy Douglas International Airport after July 1 may be in for a bit of sticker shock at the car rental counter.  Taxes and surcharges for a $75.00 daily car rental will add an additional $25.72 per day, or 34.3%.  Read full story
County Expands Hotel Revenues Subject to the Occupancy Tax

The New Hanover County Tourism Development Authority has endorsed a recommendation by the county’s Finance Officer to require lodging properties to collect the countywide occupancy tax on all hotel transactions, in addition to the room rate. Among the items subject to the tax would be charges for a roll-a-way bed, a crib, and Internet Access.   Read full story
